Webster University’s Bike Share Program

In an effort to meet the needs of an expanding campus and growing campus community of campus commuters, the Webster University Sustainability Coalition has designed a campus bike share program. The program allows students, faculty and staff renting access to bicycles that can be used on the college grounds and throughout the Webster Groves area and the surrounding communities. This program is available for free to users for short distance trips. For longer day trips, please see the rates on our reservation page.

Bike share programs have gained popularity nationwide and have shown to promote, not only positive environmental impacts, but also strong social impacts. An option to bike is friendlier to the environment, kinder to campus appeal, and promotes a greater sense of community over a shared resource. Bike transportation is proven to be both a more efficient and more enjoyable way to travel campus. The bike share program also offers an additional means of transportation for the university community in order to interact with the surrounding communities, while displaying a dedication to environmentalism and modernity.

By widening the variety of transportation options in the Webster University community, this program expands accessibility to local resources. The increase in bicycle traffic has the ability to reduce automobile traffic and emissions on, and off campus. By openly encouraging a bike culture, we allow for greater campus conservations relating to both health and wellness, and environmental issues.

Bicycle Fixit Station

The sustainability office provides resources for Webster students and faculty to fix up their own bicycles and learn maintenance skills. Also, a Dero Fixit Bike Service Station has been installed on the University center patio to help Webster bikers perform basic maintenance.

Support

Our program is provided at no cost to the Webster University Community for short, two-hour trips, and our day fees are nominal. In order to cover costs for maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep, we rely on donations. Donations help cover these essential costs and keep daily rates low. Please consider donating to this program so we can continue offering free rides to our students, faculty and staff. Your gift is tax-deductible and always appreciated!

Gifts could provide a quality bike rack to house the bikes for the program, as well as provide a portion of the user’s helmets, locks, bike parts, baskets, individual repair kits, and essential maintenance for each bike.
